Here are seven reasons why you should eat avocados

Avocados are just brilliant if you want a yummy food that is nutrient rich and good for you.

In fact, according to the USDA National Nutrient Database, just one serving (that’s one-fifth of an avocado, approximately 40 grams) contains 3.4 grams of carbohydrate and 6 grams of fat.

They also have  3 grams of fiber and hardly any sugar.

Avocados are also a great source of vitamins C, E, K, and B-6.

Avocados can be a great source of nutrients

And they contain riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium.

But that’s not all – avocados also give you lutein, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Now what freaks a lot of people out is most of the calories come from fat.

But they are chock full of healthy fats, which actually send a signal to your brain to make you feel full.

In fact, eating healthy fat supports skin health, can even help boost the immune system, and also enhances the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, and minerals.

Seven reasons why avocados are good for you

1. They are good for your heart

Avocados contain 25 milligrams per ounce of a natural plant sterol called beta-sitosterol.

Eating this regularly can help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

2. Avocados help your vision

Avocados contain lutein and zeaxanthin, two phytochemicals which are found in the tissues in the eyes.

They also provide antioxidant protection to help minimize damage from things like ultraviolet light.

Avocados may also help to reduce the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration.

3. Osteoporosis prevention

Half of an avocado provides vitamin K which is essential for bone health.
They also contain around half the daily dosage.

It’s a vitamin which is usually overlooked when it comes to healthy bones.

4. Folate in avocados can potentially help protect against cancer

Taking folate from food has shown promise in protecting against colon, stomach, pancreatic, and cervical cancers.

It is also thought folate also protects against undesirable mutations in DNA and RNA during cell division.

5. Lower risk of depression

Avocado contains folate, which may help to decrease the risk of depression.

Folate can also help prevent the build-up of homocysteine, a substance that can impair circulation and delivery of nutrients to the brain.

Too much of this can also interfere with the production of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which regulate mood, sleep, and appetite.

6. Improved digestion

Avocados are really high in fiber and have 6-7 grams per half a fruit.

Natural fiber helps with constipation, maintaining a healthy digestive tract, and can lower the risk of colon cancer.

7. Natural detoxification

Good dietary fiber of course helps keep you regular, ad that means getting rid of all those nasty toxins.

And dietary fiber in avocados may also play a role in helping lower inflammation and regulating the immune system.
